Player - Code of Conduct

• Play by the rules. Know the rules.
• Never argue with an official or show bad temper- if you need clarification, captains have the right to approach an umpire during an interval or after the game for clarification of any rule. Approach the umpire in a courteous and polite way.
• Work equally hard for yourself and your team- your teams performance will benefit - so will you. Treat all players as you would like to be treated.
• Be a good sport - applaud all good plays whether they are made by your team or the opposition. Ensure that at all times your behaviour is fair.
• Be a reasonable team member. Always be on time, attend all training sessions (this is expected)and ensure you always bring the appropriate uniform and equipment to training and/or matches.
• Show respect to and acknowledge opponents and officials - (e.g. shake hands before and after the game and say things like 'good luck', 'thanks for the game', 'thanks ref', 'three cheers for.....').
• Cooperate with your coach, teammates and opponents - without them there would be no competition. Be a patient and enthusiastic supporter of fellow players.
• Participate for your own enjoyment and benefit - not just to please parents and coaches. 
• Play fair - no verbal abuse of officials, sledging other players (including vilification) or deliberatley distancing or provoking an opponent.
• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all players, coaches, officials and spectators - regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
• Respect the talent, potential and development of fellow players and competitors.
• Be frank and honest with your coach concerning illness and injury and your ability to train and play fully.
• Conduct yourself in a reasonable manner relating to language, temper and punctuality.
• Refrain from conduct which could be regarded as sexual or other harrassment.
• Do not expect or accept "special faviours" from a coach or person involved in the team or club management.
• Speak to someone you trust if you have an issue, feel unsafe or are concerned about someone else.
• Do not engage in practices that affect sporting performance (alcohol, tobacco and drug use).

Parent/Spectator - Code of Conduct 

• Remember that children/adults participate in sport for their enjoyment - not yours.
• Encourage players to play according to the rules - settle disagreements without resorting to hostility or violence.
• Never ridicule or yell at players - for making a mistake or not winning.
• Respect officials’ decisions - encourage players to do likewise.
•  Show appreciation for coaches, officials and administrators - remember they are usually volunteers.
• Applaud good performance and efforts - from all individuals and teams.
• Congratulate all participants - regardless of the game’s outcome.
• Condemn the use of violence, verbal abuse or vilification in any form – regardless of whether it is by spectators, coaches, officials or players.
• Support all policies and practices (lead by example). This includes responsible alcohol and drug use and support of child/player safe strategies.
• Support involvement in modified rules games and other junior development programs.
• Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person - regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
• Ensure you are aware and follow the correct processes to follow if you have an issue or complaint – do not perpetuate issues with gossip or general criticism.

Netball Australia - Code of Behaviour - General

In addition to Netball Australia’s General Code of Behaviour, you must meet the following requirements with regard to your conduct during any activity held by or under the auspices of Netball Australia, Member Organisations or Affiliates in your role as a player.

• Treat all persons with respect and courtesy and have proper regard for their dignity, rights and obligations.
• Be ethical, fair, considerate and honest in all dealings with others.
• Make a commitment to providing quality service.
• Operate within the rules and spirit of the sport including national and state guidelines, constitution and policies which govern Netball Australia, Member Organisations and Affiliates.
• Do not use your involvement with netball to promote your own beliefs, behaviours or practices where these are inconsistent with those of Netball Australia, Member Organisations or Affiliates.
• Demonstrate a high degree of individual responsibility especially when dealing with persons under 18 years of age, as your words and actions are an example.
• Always place the safety and welfare of children above other considerations.
• Avoid unaccompanied and unobserved activities with persons under 18 years of age, wherever possible.
• Comply with all relevant Australian laws (Federal and State), particularly anti-discrimination and child protection laws.
• Refrain from any behaviour that may bring Netball Australia, Member Organisations or Affiliates into disrepute.
• Provide a safe environment for the conduct of the activity.
• Show concern and caution towards others who may be sick or injured.
• Be a positive role model.
• Be responsible and accountable for your conduct.
• Abide by the relevant Netball Australia role-specific codes of behaviour and understand the repercussions if you breach, or are aware of any breaches of this Code of Behaviour.
